As fuel costs continue to rise, many consumers and businesses are turning to alternate means of cutting expenses. One popular way to reduce fuel expense is through route optimization by using a GPS device. Many transportation companies are using new GPS technology called Telematics to track driver routes and correct any deviations from the planned route. Consider these ideas when looking to purchase or upgrade your current GPS device.

Traveling to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) this summer? Be sure to visit the following site for POI (points of interest) files and maps:
BWCA Trip Planning and GPS POI Data
I remember the last time I was in the BWCA, and a GPS device with portage information, campsites, etc. would have been invaluable. Would have definately beat having a compass and a few printed maps, especially on the larger lakes!

Recently I have had several of my buddies ask me which model fishfinder I would recommend for their 2008 purchase. My typical answer is, "it depends." If you are looking to spend less than $500, the Garmin 340C is a nice model. It has several options and a nice simple to use interface. A good mid-range fishfinder that I occasionally recommend is the Northstar Explorer 467. If you are looking for a fishfinder for over $1000, the Furuno FCV585 is a nice model. One of the features that I like the most is the large, 8.4" display. This fishfinder is loaded with the most options and latest digital technology so it deserves a good look.
